Weed + Foxes in Fiction: Teenage Dream (Katy Perry cover)

By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard about the super-wonderful Collaborations tape curated by our friends at Dead as Digital, The Road Goes Ever On, and Stadiums and Shrines. It’s the product of a lot of hard work between some pretty great artists (Teen Daze, Closed Cassette, Ghost Animal, to name a few) so go and grab yourself one if you haven’t already (its only $6!). Mike from D.A.D. was kind enough to shoot us a promo copy, which I’ve been slowly spacing out to while putting off an English paper.

Weed and Foxes in Fiction’s cover of “Teenage Dream” has quickly become a favorite, namely because a) it features two incredibly talented people and b) it’s a Katy Perry cover. Not only is it pretty faithful to the original (yes, I actually brought myself to listen to it) but hearing Anderson and Hildebrand deliver those lyrics with a straight face is something to behold. Excellent work all around, folks!

Oh man I told myself I wouldnt post anything more today but upon hearing this incredible reworking of a perfect example of corporate america’s pop formula trainwreck, I was in awe at how fucking RAD this song is. Ok alright sure fine awesome. now im done.

I am left with no other choice but to share a personal story. Let me begin:

Sometime last week, I found myself awake, on the couch, watching MTV music videos. In other words, it was past 3 AM and MTV was actually showing music videos. With nothing else to do, I tuned in. “Teenage Dream” started playing and instantly, I found myself bopping my head with the tune. Not only that, but the music video gave me this urge to, I don’t know, make out with somebody. You know those songs that just scream, “LET’S MAKE OUT NOW, NOW, NOW”? Well, this song has it written all over it. Seriously. It states, “Let’s go all the way tonight” like a thousand times.

So, now, knowing that Weeds and Foxes in Fiction did a cover to this song, well, I’m basically dead. We all shower and swim in my obsession and love with Weeds and Foxes in Fiction. Them covering this particular songs brings out the total “OMG FAN GIRL” in me. Seriously. I am one fucking happy little girl all thanks to this cover. Hearing him say, “Let’s go alllll the way tonight,” is a thousand times better than hearing Perry sing that. Is that what falling in love feels like? Amazing, amazing, amazing. Seriously, nothing can bring me down tonight after this song. LISTEN TO WARREN SING. MY GOD, DO YOU NOT GET THE CHILLS? And Weeds! MY GOD, THIS IS HEAVEN. This is a weed heaven filled with Foxes in Fiction. Or something like that. Okay, I am done rambling. But, really; Listen, download, repeat. 

Can I just throw in that this cover has basically achieved my “Teenage Dream”? Get it? No? Oh, okay. Well, whatever. Still, listen to this.
